Got What You Need

WHAT'S GOOOOD! Well, I've been on hiatus as your Hip-Hop director for the past semester, but I'm BACK! and let me tell you--the new hip-hop we have poppin' off in the statioin is ILL. I'm also not just saying this because the promo companies are telling me to. I'm legitimately excited about some of the albums we have in the studio. Some of these I only have in digital format, but I'll be burning them to CD's and getting them into the studio by the weekend! I'll give you a run down of some of the things we got going on:

N.A.S.A.-Spirit of Apollo
This album is indescribably AMAZING. Groundbreaking might be a better way to characterize it. Its a party album for sure, but it does well as a listening companion. Its Hip-Hop in its best sense: creative, interesting & BUMPING! Not to mention that its greatest quality is the long and distinguished list of guest artists on the album. Some examples are David Byrne (of Talking Heads), Method Man, RZA, Seu Jorge (featured in the
movie Life Aquatic), Kanye West, M.I.A., Chuck D, and many others! spin this album!

Mic Crenshaw-Thinking Out Loud
Based of Portland Mic Crenshaw is a force to be f*cked with! This is his first solo album (formerly a member of Sucka Punch and Cleveland Steamers) and it is a choice listen. He's very political, but very positive, and his lyrics never get tedious in their message. The beats are all tight and the songs well put together. And his message is backed by his actions! He helped cofound an organization that aids refugees displaced by war, and he works as a teacher/social worker. This cat is for real, and you should join the movement.

Dragon Fli Empire-Redefine
I don't much about these guys other than that they're from Calgary, Canada. Yes, I thought the same thing. But, they make some funky ass music! Teekay, is the MC and his lyrics are smooth and flow well. The funky beats perfectly complement Teekay's style. Not to mention that Rashaan Ahmad and Josh Martinez are both on this album! Its underground in great form. Peep this album for sure!

Novel-I Am Future Black President EP
This is just an EP, but its production is immaculate. Novel is the heir to a great hip-hop family, and that influence and legacy lives on. He has done production for both Beyonce and Alicia Keys, but this is the first solo album I've ever heard from him. It's part hip-hop, part R&B, part awesome. Novel sings, raps, and produces almost everything on this EP. I think the second track, 'Wild West', is the best, but you should make that judgment for yourself. I can't wait for the full length album 'The Audiobiography' to drop. I anticipate its going to be dope.

And there's even more! So, SPIN THAT HIP-HOP FOOL!
