DONK!

I just watched this really amazing, engrossing, disgusting thing on the internet. It's called 'donk'
Whack a pipe with a baseball pipe, record it, put it through a million audio filters, add a cheesey synth bass line. Repeat 150 times per minute.

It's this really dumb form of British house music. They play it in the north part of england in these slum towns filled with crackheads, drunks and, apparently, a lot of trashy rave kiddies.

The girls are super trashed on WKD [their version of smirnoff ice or something, but blue] wearing zebra miniskirts and and really bad fake tans. The guys are trashed and shirtless, to show off their muscles because they all take steroids, aprtly for the bulk, partly for the added testerone so they can PARTY PARTY PARTY. Also, there are a bunch of kids there, because they're into it too.

Now, make up some really dumb lyrics about partying, aliens, and hot biches, rap them in an indecipherable dialect, and jump up and down.

Oh, and 'put a donk on it'

Got What You Need

WHAT'S GOOOOD! Well, I've been on hiatus as your Hip-Hop director for the past semester, but I'm BACK! and let me tell you--the new hip-hop we have poppin' off in the statioin is ILL. I'm also not just saying this because the promo companies are telling me to. I'm legitimately excited about some of the albums we have in the studio. Some of these I only have in digital format, but I'll be burning them to CD's and getting them into the studio by the weekend! I'll give you a run down of some of the things we got going on:

N.A.S.A.-Spirit of Apollo
This album is indescribably AMAZING. Groundbreaking might be a better way to characterize it. Its a party album for sure, but it does well as a listening companion. Its Hip-Hop in its best sense: creative, interesting & BUMPING! Not to mention that its greatest quality is the long and distinguished list of guest artists on the album. Some examples are David Byrne (of Talking Heads), Method Man, RZA, Seu Jorge (featured in the
movie Life Aquatic), Kanye West, M.I.A., Chuck D, and many others! spin this album!

Mic Crenshaw-Thinking Out Loud
Based of Portland Mic Crenshaw is a force to be f*cked with! This is his first solo album (formerly a member of Sucka Punch and Cleveland Steamers) and it is a choice listen. He's very political, but very positive, and his lyrics never get tedious in their message. The beats are all tight and the songs well put together. And his message is backed by his actions! He helped cofound an organization that aids refugees displaced by war, and he works as a teacher/social worker. This cat is for real, and you should join the movement.

Dragon Fli Empire-Redefine
I don't much about these guys other than that they're from Calgary, Canada. Yes, I thought the same thing. But, they make some funky ass music! Teekay, is the MC and his lyrics are smooth and flow well. The funky beats perfectly complement Teekay's style. Not to mention that Rashaan Ahmad and Josh Martinez are both on this album! Its underground in great form. Peep this album for sure!

Novel-I Am Future Black President EP
This is just an EP, but its production is immaculate. Novel is the heir to a great hip-hop family, and that influence and legacy lives on. He has done production for both Beyonce and Alicia Keys, but this is the first solo album I've ever heard from him. It's part hip-hop, part R&B, part awesome. Novel sings, raps, and produces almost everything on this EP. I think the second track, 'Wild West', is the best, but you should make that judgment for yourself. I can't wait for the full length album 'The Audiobiography' to drop. I anticipate its going to be dope.

And there's even more! So, SPIN THAT HIP-HOP FOOL!

Recording Your Show!

I installed a new program that can easily rip your show from the web stream to mp3!
AND it's SWEDISH MADE woo!

this guide should sum up how to use it.

SEE THE GUIDE IN FULL SCREEN

Just to stress, make sure winamp is always open on the computer no matter what you are doing. Don't play music with it either. Its where the web stream goes through.
Also, Make sure the recorder is muted when you are ripping otherwise if you are playing songs from the computer the station will broadcast both what is playing and the delayed web stream (which would sound terrible).

The guide is for the computer in the studio only, but this can be done from anyone's computer to record any station online. just download the program:
http://www.screamer-radio.com/download/
and once it is installed go to file>open URL and put in this:
http://belcon.beloit.edu/wbcr/listen.asx
to load up the WBCR stream. You have configure it to save as an mp3 and what folder from preferences and is pretty self-explanatory, but all that is done for you already in the studio!
If you want to set it up on your own computer and are having troubles drop me an email at wbcrloudrock@gmail.com

Spinitron!

Starting this semester, we're going to be using an online tool called Spinitron for recording playlists. This means that instead of sending your playlists and show descriptions to the directors, you can control it yourself. And, more importantly, the information will be LIVE and PUBLIC meaning that people can see what song you're playing as you are playing it. Pretty cool, huh?
Our public page is already live and waiting for the first playlists to be logged
To get started, quickly check out the tutorial embedded below:

(view in a larger size)
You should have gotten the access code at training. If not, email wbcrweb@gmail.com to get it.

Thanks so much, and rock on!

We will also be handing out programmer applications WHICH ARE DUE THIS FRIDAY!

There will also be a super cheap beer special, for those old enough to partake.
